Fire-Roasted Hot Dogs
"Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!" — Psalm 133:1
The quintessential camping meal. There is something profoundly simple and joyful about roasting your own dinner over an open flame with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 1 package of high-quality hot dogs or smokies
- 1 package of hot dog buns
- Ketchup, mustard, and relish
- Roasting sticks (clean branches or metal skewers)
Instructions
- Find the perfect coal bed: Wait for the fire to burn down slightly. Roasting over glowing embers provides an even cook, while roaring flames will burn the outside before the inside is hot.
- Skewer securely: Thread the hot dog lengthwise onto the stick, making sure it won't easily fall off into the ashes.
- Roast slowly: Hold the hot dog over the coals, rotating it continuously. You're looking for a blistering, bubbling skin.
- Assemble: Place the hot dog into a bun, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy the smoky flavor!
