Cowboy Coffee

    Cowboy Coffee

"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." — Psalm 118:24

No fancy equipment needed. Just water, coffee grounds, and a campfire. The secret is the splash of cold water at the end to settle the grounds!

    Ingredients

    • 4 cups of clean water
    • 1/2 cup coarse ground coffee
    • 1/4 cup cold water (for settling)
    • Pinch of salt (optional, cuts bitterness)

    Instructions

    1. Boil water: Fill a camp kettle or pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil over the campfire.
    2. Remove from heat: Once boiling, move the kettle off the direct flames and let it sit for about 30 seconds so the water stops bubbling.
    3. Add coffee: Stir in the coarse coffee grounds (and salt, if using). Do not return to a rolling boil, as it will make the coffee bitter.
    4. Steep: Let it steep near the heat for 4-5 minutes.
    5. Settle the grounds: Splash the cold water into the pot. This rapidly cools the grounds, causing them to sink to the bottom. Carefully pour and enjoy!
