Cast Iron Baked Apples
"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones." — Proverbs 16:24
A classic, comforting dessert that makes the whole house smell like autumn. Sweet, tender, and incredibly simple to pull together.
Ingredients
- 4 firm baking apples (like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or rolled oats
- 2 tbsp butter, cut into 4 pieces
- 1/4 cup water or apple cider
Instructions
- Preheat: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Core apples: Wash the apples and use an apple corer or a paring knife to remove the core, leaving the bottom intact so the filling doesn't fall out.
- Mix filling: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts (or oats).
- Stuff apples: Spoon the sugar mixture into the hollowed-out center of each apple, packing it down gently. Top each apple with a piece of butter.
- Bake: Place the stuffed apples in a cast iron skillet or small baking dish. Pour the water or cider into the bottom of the pan to keep them from drying out. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the apples are tender.
- Serve: Spoon the syrupy juices from the pan over the apples before serving. Enjoy warm!
